Sparks flying everywhere didn't faze Ernie

Sad at the loss of a good man I remember fondly (Elec Eng 1977 to 80). Whilst doing experiments in the heavy lab, a floor mounted rheostat failed and was showering sparks all around. Students stepped back in fear, and simply looked at the problem. Ernie walked up to it calmly and hit the off switch.

He was an Engineer's Engineer, brilliant, yet not afraid to hit it with a 'hammer' when needed (another story about a large 3 phase motor that didn't start and sat there humming).
